Sr Madeleine Fredell OP om ”kärlekens primat”

Sr Madeleine Fredell mediterar över Joh 21:1-25

”We are at the Primacy of Peter and both the place and today’s Gospel are leading our thoughts somewhat astray. It would be easy to focus on the identity of Peter, on his primacy, on his being the leader of the flock, and so avoid the challenging question to us. The deeper meaning of the events by the Sea of Tiberias is rather about our identity as Christians, that is about our primacy.

The Gospel of John is not particularly eager to present Peter as a prime model or leader of the Church. Instead, John puts forward the never named, the anonymous, disciple, whom Jesus loved, as the one who faithfully follows Jesus. And hence, the decisive question in today’s Gospel: “Do you love me?” The only question that finally also will be put to us.

So what is our trade-mark by which others should recognize us as Christians? What is the personality that people of other faiths and convictions should ascribe to us?

For certain, it is not to be efficient leaders of a flourishing church company! The only thing that matters is love. But what is the primacy of love?”

PS  Sr Madeleine ställer oss  kristna mot väggen.  Och där kan vi alla tillsammans stå och skämmas.

När det kommer till kritan –  vem skulle kunna påstå att kristna är ett föredöme i mänskligt umgänge ?
