”Along with seven other survivors I met with Pope Francis Aug. 25, at which time I asked him why the central Vatican Accountability Tribunal announced in 2015 was not being implemented. In reply to me, he spoke of his belief that for cultural reasons such a tribunal was ”not viable.” He referenced his 2016 moto proprio ”As A Loving Mother” at this time and later in his press conference Aug 26 on the plane home to Rome, rather than the tribunal.”
On the plane he expressed the belief that I was a ”bit fixated” and did not ”understand” the process being used now. I have no problem in admitting to being determined to see those who protect perpetrators held accountable (though ”fixated” is not how I would describe myself!)
”The priest who abused me was exposed as a perpetrator to his bishop soon afterwards, but the bishop did nothing, and the priest went on to sexually assault little girls in his parishes for the next 30 years — hence my determination that perpetrators not be protected.”
”The statement in regard to my lack of understanding is reminiscent to me of Cardinal Gerhard Müller, who after my resignation from the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors in 2017 also said I did not ”understand.” I did in that case too.” ”The pope’s main reason for different judges for different bishops, as expressed during the press conference, is because of the ”different cultures of bishops who must be judged.” This I freely admit I do not understand. The Catholic Church should have a universal standard to which all leaders are held. ”

Collins, who was part of a group of eight Irish survivors who met with Francis for 90 minutes Aug. 25, revealed that the pope had said he is not planning to follow through on a 2015 proposal for the Vatican to create one tribunal tasked with judging bishops accused of mishandling abuse allegations.
”Although Francis said he has ”esteem” for Collins, he said the idea for such a tribunal is ”not viable.” He said that instead of having one dedicated tribunal, the Vatican is now instituting tribunals on a case-by-case basis, as needed.”

PS Utomordentligt intressant. Marie Collins sätter fingret på konsekvensen av att Franciskus köpt sina rådgivares besked att det inte är genomförbart i praktiken med en central domstol för ansvarsutkrävande av pedofilbrott inom katolska kyrkan. Det kommer råda olika normer och godtycklighet. Marie Collins har helt rätt att det måste råda absolut samma normer inom hela den universella kyrkan vad pedofilbrott beträffar. Inte olika normer utifrån olika kulturer för olika biskopar ! Det är ju helt horribelt! Jag är mycket besviken på påve Franciskus som använder sig av typiskt patriarkalt maktspråk mot Marie Collins. Vaddå fixerad ! Vaddå inte förstå ! Vaddå inte genomförbart ! Franciskus vågar helt enkelt inte erkänna att han inte vågat gå emot sina manliga rådgivare som förespråkar lokala domstolar. Det är ju Franciskus biskopliga rådgivare som inte förstår. Eller rättare sagt inte VILL förstå och så projicerar Franciskus deras bristande vilja att förstå på Marie Collins och anklagar henne att inte förstå och att vara fixerad ! Det är skamligt och fegt ! Om den goda viljan finns går allt att ordna brukar man säga. Men om den goda vilan saknas går inget att förverkliga! Att en påve har mage att till ett offer för en katolsk pedofilpräst säga att hon är ”fixerad ” bara för att hon har annan uppfattning i sakfrågan kring domstolsförfarande är helt oaccebtabelt!
Ja, Irene, här talar det påvliga maktspelet och det nya ljudet i skällan är också att det tydligen finns en särskild kyrklig kulturrelatism för klerkers överggrepp mot minderåriga. Inte ens socialantropologer på det tidiga 70 – talet skulle väl vara helt bekväma med dylik relativism?
