Franco Curbo besvarade anklagelser om burka med att en burka är svart och täcker hela ansiktet utom ögonen. Hans Mariafigur har en vit schal om huvudet, en vit dräkt och hennes ansikte syns. Budskapet ”Låt oss bygga broar istället för murar ” har Franco Curbo låtit skriva på väggar runt krubban.
“There is so much ignorance,” he said. “The Nativity scene is designed to confront the problems of our time. This year we wanted to deal with the 65 walls that have been built in the world. The most scandalous is the wall built by the Israelis to block the Palestinians.
“Building walls is easy. Creating dialogue is a little difficult.”

Nej, Josef och Maria – som oskyddade judar, hade nog inte kommit så långt i dagens Palestina. Hade kanske inte ens överlevt.
