”Bishop Luis Santos Villeda of Santa Rosa de Copan will celebrate his 75th birthday in November and plans to immediately submit his resignation to the Vatican, as required by canon law. Once his resignation is accepted and he is freed from the responsibilities of bishop, Bishop Santos says, he will run for president as a candidate of a progressive faction of the Liberal Party, whose last president, Manuel Zelaya, was deposed in a 2009 coup.”
Biskop Santos var känd för att stå i oppostion till statskuppen 2009 vilket försatte honom i konflikt med kardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga som stödde kuppen.

”The Catholic Church chooses life; but in order to preserve life the Church has to work resolving the conflicts that threaten life. The Honduran people is waking up and wants to liberate itself of the chains that the exploiters and oppressed have maintained. In the history of salvation, God has intervened in favor of the oppressed. The Catholic church today in Honduras also ought to intervene in favor of the oppressed, thus giving testimony of the following of Jesus Christ, of whom we are disciples and missionaries for the construction of the Kingdom.
I ask the Holy Spirit whose coming we will celebrate June 12 to give us wisdom, intelligence, and strength to face the unjust reality in which the poor live and to find suitable solutions which seek the Common Good and not the enrichment of only a few. ”

Detta är äkta befrielseteologi. Jag vet inte om Ratzinger anser att det är att svära i hans kyrka att nämna det ordet, men faktum är att biskop Santos praxis av evangelium är långt trognare det evangeliska originalet än påvens retorik.
Som rika missionärer tog vi saken i egna händer och köpte loss jorden indianerna sedan urminnes tid hävdat sin rätt till; också detta är att praktisera befrielsens teologi, men den politiska vägen kan vara nog så effektiv för att uppnå samma mål: att återge de berövade vad de har rätt till.
Etablerande av rättvisa så att ett människovärdigt liv kan levas är ett av många evangeliska uppdrag.
