Israels utrikesminister Tzipi Hotovely

”Every decent Israeli should read Omar al-Abed’s last testament. The real betrayal is not to read his last words. The real betrayal is to think that metal detectors and targeted killings, more detentions and home demolitions, torture and disinheritance could prevent the numerous attacks that are yet to come. The real betrayal is to bury your head in the sand.”

”Without denying the horror of his terrible deed, every Israeli must pay attention to Abed’s words and draw the unavoidable conclusions. The entire West Bank, and the Gaza Strip too, of course, will turn into Omar al-Abed, there’s no telling when. Anyone who thinks it could be otherwise should look to history. This is what occupation and resistance to it look like: massive, pointless bloodshed.”

    Jack Khoury skriver

”The Palestinian assailant who murdered three Israelis in the West Bank settlement of Halamish on Friday posted on Facebook nearly 90 minutes before the attack that he was ”going to die for Al-Aqsa.”

In the hours preceding the attack, 20-year-old Omar el-Abed posted on Facebook: ”I am writing my will and these are my last words. I am young, I have not yet reached the age of 20, I have many dreams and aspirations.”

”But what life is this, in which they murder our wives and our youth without any justification. They desecrate the Al-Aqsa mosque and we are asleep, it’s a digrace that we sit idly by,” he continued, asking those who have weapons ”but only take them out for weddings and celebrations: Are you not ashamed of yourselves? Why won’t you declare war for God? They have closed Al-Aqsa mosque and your weapons are still.”

Haaretz 22 juli Chemi Shalev skriver (Artikeln låst)

Jag citerar ”Dear God, Not Again”

”Israelis and Palestinians are headed for another round of tragedy and destruction but seem helpless to avoid it ”

”It’s like sleep paralysis. You think you’re wide-awake but can’t move a muscle to stop the nightmare that’s unfolding in front of your eyes. You shout out but no one hears you. You know the tragedy can be avoided, but no one seems to care. Your mouth goes dry, you start to feel nauseous, there’s a pit in your stomach, fear in your heart and desperation on your mind. Even if you’re not a believer you pray: Dear God, not again. ”

”In the end, Israelis will grow more isolated and resentful and Palestinians more desperate and oppressed and both sides will feel like victims that the world has ignored or abandoned. And you are left to wonder how people who are so supposed to be so smart can also be so stupid, or at least wonder why their leaders are too obstinate and closed-minded to break out of these infernal cycles of violence and frustration. “We are your chosen people. But, once in a while, can’t you choose someone else?” asked Tevye in Fiddler in the Roof. If this is God’s Holy Land, you might wonder, why can’t He (or She) move somewhere else for a change, or at least go on vacation?”
